Saint Petersburg (Russia) – 1904, this is where our House was born and our Perfume Maker inspired by his trips to Paris decided to create the finest fragrances. The luxury and Baroque style of the City couldn’t be more an inspiration to his creativity. One thing has always been our goal:
To Create the most unique fragrances with the best ingredients from all around the world. By travelling to Grasse (France), he found some of the best natural ingredients. He brought them back to Russia. His inspiration started to work after getting the best raw materials and one after another, sometimes it took him years to create fragrances closer to what was in his mind.
Mr. Krigler didn’t know his artistic family would have had traveled the world discovering new cultures and new horizons. Feeding themselves with the beauty of the planet.
Around 1917, the family had to move to Berlin where a lot of Russians fled during the Revolution. Few years later, the family thought that the sky and fresh air of the French Riviera near Grasse would fit their desire of a peaceful life. Nice had always been a city where the Russian aristocracy spent their holidays during the Belle Époque era and there was on the French Riviera a sort of cozy atmosphere.
Around the 1920's, KRIGLER met in Cap d'Antibes the rich American clientele. The Lost Generation became acquainted to the eccentricity of the creations of KRIGLER. At that time the Southern peninsula of Antibes was the bastion of wealth and exclusivity and there was space for extravagance. With fragrances named Sparkling Diamond 22, English Promenade 19, fragrances became as a candy to our friends.
It was the time when Jazz music started when Louis Armstrong recorded his first 78 rpm records, the first jazz masterpieces, with King Oliver in Chicago. That year, a young American couple, good-looking and immensely rich, set up home on the cape of Antibes where they had a beautiful villa built, baptized ‘America’ as is only right and proper. And so began the passionate story which made Antibes a major melting pot of Afro-American music, and also of modern art and culture.
By 1930, the daughter of Mr. Krigler got married with one of those young man from America spending his holidays in Juan Les Pins listening Jazz. She moved to New York with him and before settling near Beacon, upstate New York, they lived in the Plaza for couple of months. She then started to sell fragrances to her rich friends and people she met there.
In the meantime, part of the family lived in Paris another part in Lyon where Kri Kri the fourth generation was born. During summers, the family gathered themselves together in Cap d'Antibes and during winters or in Palm Beach or Deauville.
During World War II, the House of KRIGLER lost its main clientele in Germany, Austria, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia due to the closing of the borders. The only market remaining was the U.S.A., KRIGLER became then American and started another time another company.
It became impossible to pursue the activity and when the founder past away, there was no reason to pursue for his children. At least until the fourth generation.
Kri Kri was born in France, she graduated from the famous “Cours Antoine” in Paris on Rue Cambon. Shortly after she got married, while taking care of her children she was traveling the world, creating her own scents during the 1960's imagined after the diverse places she had visited.
Kri Kri has always loved a scent which is both sober and sophisticated, masculine and feminine, rigorous and happy. Rational but imaginative, defying the classical register, she has the insolence to invent a scent where freedom is sovereign. The scents she creates, where she express her taste of unexpected mix are indefinitely seducing.
Kri Kri created in her atelier, scents as notes of the time. In the archive of the family she found over 200 scents and fragrances and decided to recreate them as much as she could.
But it’s only after the turn of the year 2000 that House of KRIGLER reopened its doors and was ready to begin a new era in New York.
KRIGLER, a name synonymous of elegance, craftsmanship and hand-made representing a style in fragrance and cosmetics with attention to refined detail. Intriguing. These elements embody the spirit that KRIGLER created since the 1904 until today through generations of perfume makers and creators.
